On This Day: The Music City Miracle
Sixteen years ago, the bottom fell out of a football game yet again for the Buffalo Bills. This time it was in Nashville for the Wild Card Playoff game against the Tennessee Titans.
After the Bills had taken a 16–15 lead on a field goal with 16 seconds left in the game, Titans tight end Frank Wycheck threw a lateral pass across the field to Kevin Dyson on the ensuing kickoff return, and Dyson then ran 75 yards to score the winning touchdown and earn a 22–16 victory.
The “Music City Miracle” proved to be a game changing moment in the 2000 postseason for the Titans, as it launched them to two more wins on the way to a heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk and the St. Louis Rams.
All the same, the play is one for the ages.
