Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro are reuniting for their ninth project and Al Pacino has a spot at the table too thanks to Netflix and its $105 million for the global right to The Irishman. The film, slated for a 2019 release that would sync up with an Oscar-qualifying run, is the story based on the life of mafia hitman Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran (De Niro), who is best known for his possible involvement in the murder of Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino).
The cast also includes Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel and Bobby Cannavale. There’s a lot of acting crossover here from the likes of The Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino and the familiarity that Scorsese has with these Hollywood heavyweights. Surprisingly, this will be the first instance where Pacino and Scorsese will have worked together.
