Fields of Dreams
When it comes to the Iowa Supreme Court, if they rule it, they will come. The state’s high court struck down an appeal and now a 24-field baseball complex will be built at the “Field of Dreams” movie site in Dyersville, IA. Local residents had sought to block the development over fears it would cause disruptions to traffic and farming operations.
Thousands still visit the site of the 1989 Kevin Costner movie to run the bases and enter the field from the cornfield. The new complex, All-Star Ballpark Heaven, will be home to youth baseball and softball fields, lodging for visiting teams and coaches and tours of the farmhouse and original baseball diamond. Dyersville is 140 miles northeast of Des Moines and has been a tourist destination since “Shoeless Joe Jackson”, played by Ray Liotta, roamed the outfield. We’ll see you there and we’ll have a catch.
