Showtime’s “Billions” Looks To Be The Money

The new Showtime series Billions premiered last night and, as far as a pilot episode goes, it looks like we might be in for the long haul.

For starters, Paul Giamatti can do no wrong in our world. To us, he makes everything better and, as U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades, it would seem that viewers are going to be in for an intriguing character study with Giamatti yet again. Especially considering the opening scene – we won’t leak it here but you’ll take notice immediately when you see it – let’s just say that Rhoades’ “interests” run the gamut.

His primary interest, however, is trying to trip up hedge fund king, Bobby “Axe” Axelrod, played by Damian Lewis (most recently of Homeland fame).

The battle between these two powerful New York figures is already hinting at the explosive, the eye candy, the rarified air of money versus more money and good against evil – although who is the good and who is the evil isn’t yet black and white.

Maggie Siff (Sons of Anarchy), Malin Akerman and David Costibile (Suits) are but a few in the cast that already have our attention moving forward.

Billions airs Sunday nights. The trailer should whet your whistle for a billion different reasons…
